Food for the Long Haul     Listen:

Mainsail ripped and riddled/mast bustin' away
Driftin' these sorry seas alone/too many days to say
Am I a crazy loon/still talkin' like you're right here
When it finally sinks in/will I drown in my own fear

Don't need to know what day my ship comes in
Don't paint me rosy pictures of the other shore
My soul craves food for the long haul
And a beacon to guide me thru this raging storm

Guess it was my choice
That don't help at all
When two hearts chart the same course
Takes a fearsome squall
To cleave the deck beneath you
I'm splintered and prone
Sifting thru this wreckage
What's yours, what's my own

Don't need to know what day my ship comes in
A quick fix leaves me worse off than before
My crying need is for food for the long haul
And reason to keep vigil thru this raging storm

There're prophets who swear
They've seen the promised land
Some even claim to know the day
This ol' world ends
Sometimes in my trembling
Wish I could be so sure
The path of grace and wonder
Is always more obscure

Don't need to know what day my ship comes in
The true way home often feels like a detour
My only need is food for the long haul
With soul friends my anchor thru this raging storm
My simple prayer is food for the long haul
With soul friends my anchor thru this raging storm
